to have dessert first!

This town offers a lovely shopping area!

The Herreshoff, Marine Museum and America's Cup Hall of Fame

Their brochure says, "In 1971 A Sidney DeWolf Herreshoff
and Rebecca Chase Herreshoff founded the Herreshoff Marine Museum
to preserve and perpetuate the unique accomplishment of the
Herreshoff Manufacturing Company and the key role it played in the
indusrial revolution and the America's Cup competition. "

The Museum's collection includes over 60
meticulously restored yachts in their
Hall of Boats.  There are special exhibits that
chronicle the history of the America's Cup and contain
plaques honoring Hall of Fame Inductees.

Nancy and I enjoy
sitting in one of the
beautifully restored yachts.

Beautiful china and crystal used on
various yachts are part
of the collection.

Nancy's nautical purse fits right in with the decor!
You can find these  at our Bow-tiques!

Star Spangled Muffins

A Fourth of July tradition!

Two Sisters and the Silver Spoon Cook Book
This time I didn't use cupcake liners.  Instead, I sprayed
Baker's Joy in each muffin cup.  I filled the cups up quite a
bit and ended up with 18 good size muffins!
PS:  My husband says, "These are the best muffins yet!"
Give them a try and get in the patriotic cooking and baking mode!

"Trumpet of the Swan" is a wonderful book.
Key parts take place in the Public Garden and
the Swan Boats are featured.  If you haven't read
this classic...you must.  Nancy reads it to her class
each year.  Lots of important lessons are learned.

This 15 minute ride is well worth it.
It is a very relaxing few moments
in the midst of a busy city!

The swan boats are beautiful and are powered by
a human pedaling away!

Russo's on Pleasant Street in
Watertown, Massachusetts is a fabulous market!
Gorgeous produce, cheese, flowers and bakery are
some of the highlights of a visit to Russo's.
Special thanks to Jeannie for this
recommendation.

Picture perfect produce...underneath gourmet jellies, jams and syrups
can be found for your culinary needs.

Locally grown strawberries in the old-fashioned
containers ...how delightful a sight!

All kinds of breads, cakes, cookies and more are found

Boston, Massachusetts - Loaded with History!

On a recent trip to Boston, we visited the Public Garden.

Walking along, we noticed the headstone of
Gilbert Stuart, artist.  He painted the famous
picture of George Washington and so many others!

Samuel Adams, Signer of the Declaration of Independence
and Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
rests peacefully along the Freedom Trail.
Boston, Massachusetts
If you love history...this is the city for you!

Happy Summer!

Summer...where the clock just rests its hands and the ice-cubes do all the turning.

Sharing Spaces!

This year, I planted vegetables amongst the perennials!
It seemed like the thing to do as my husband pointed
out this great article in the Wall Street Journal just around
the time I began my planting.
It appears as though everyone is very happy with this
new arrangement!  The flowers are getting much more
water and fertilizer thanks to their new neighbors.
Basil, lettuce, tomatoes, squash, parsley, eggplant
and hot pepper plants are enjoying time with all
sorts of new friends!  We should all take a lesson
from Mother Nature!  Everyone should get along
in our garden of life called "Earth!"

Green...a wonderful relaxing color!

The lush green of early June is evident in these

ensure a green carpet all summer long!
Lots of mowing up and down the slopes

Zucchini and Tomato -Two Sisters and The Silver Spoon Cookbook

Page 89
Zucchini, grape tomatoes, garlic
fresh parsley, olive oil, salt and pepper...
7 simple ingredients
Don't forget to use non-stick aluminum foil
for easy clean-up!
Great with chicken, steaks, pork, burgers, kabobs
and baked fish!

Strawberry Fields Bread

1/2 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1-3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3/4 cup chopped fresh strawberries
1/2 cup chopped walnuts

In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar until fluffy.  Beat in eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.  Add sour cream and vanilla; mix well.  Combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cinnamon; stir into creamed mixture just until moistened.  Fold in strawberries and nuts.

Pour into a greased loaf pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 50 - 55 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.  Cool for 10 minutes; remove from pan to a wire rack to cool completely.

Madame Turtle

Madame Turtle makes her way up the lawn
in order to find the perfect spot to dig for her eggs.

Its a long walk up the hill!

She spends hours digging and scratching...
looking for the perfect spot.

Enough work for today...Madame
returns to the water in order to cool off!
Once her eggs are laid, she will leave and
never return.  Madame will never see her offspring.
When they are born, these babies
will  instinctively know everything
they need to know in order to survive in this world!
Now that's amazing!
